CDA Garden Club Meeting Minutes for 1/10/12 Meeting was called to order by President Karen Carstens at 1:00pm at Dalton City Hall. Welcome to visitors/members was given. Visitors were (1)Kathy Dieler (2)Anneke Connaway (3)Gina Langley and (4)Sandy Ray. Karen reminded all that the club history book is at each meeting and can be reviewed at any time. The birthday basket has been discontinued. We will just recognize birthdays each month. Marj Bagley (vice-president) introduced our guest speaker, John Thurston. John owns and operates "The Cutting Edge", a sharpening service and tool sales. He spoke on care of tools and sharpening. It was very interesting and helpful. He also sharpens knives, sissors and other sharp instruments. After our program we broke for refreshments provided by Elaine Hankinson. At the conclusion of our break, Karen asked for a motion to approve last months minutes. Ellie moved to accept and Sheila seconded. Motion was passed. Joanne Hillawell will help set up for meetings.Treasurer's audit was completed and approved. Grace was thanked for doing such an excellent job. New directories are here. Thank you to Peggy Coleman, Jill Dero and Janet Stevens. A new program titled "Getting to know you" was begun with Karen Carstens as our first speaker to share who she is and about her life. Each speaker will limit their presentation to 4-5 minutes. A volunteer list was circulated. Bonnie Warwick spoke about the Garden Tour which will be 7/15/12. Bonnie is our chairman and asked for volunteers. The next meeting will be 2/1/12 at 1:00pm at the CDA Public Library, downstairs. A handout was distributed titled, "Recipe for a colorful winter garden." There were 4 door prizes this month happily distributed. At our next meeting 2/14/12, Chris Bohler will speak on pruning.
